Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the appropriate body composition and senior fitness level for the prevention of metabolic syndrome in elderly women. Participant in this study divided into two groups, metabolic syndrome and normal elderly groups. All participants in this study were subjected to body composition test and elderly-specific physical fitness test. Blood pressure, blood glucose, triglycerides, and HDL-c were also measured. An independent t test was performed to compare the variables of the two groups. The ROC curve was used to analyze the threshold values of optimal body composition and senior fitness level for the prevention of metabolic syndrome. The results were following, There were differences in body weight, BMI, and body fat percentage between the two groups, but there was no difference in muscle mass. In addition, it was confirmed that the relative hand grip strength was a statistically significant level of cut off value among all the senior fitness test variables. It has been confirmed that an appropriate body mass index is essential to prevent metabolic syndrome in elderly women, and we insist that exercise program that can increase the relative hand grip strength should be provided.
