Abstract

In the present article the author analyzes the functioning of the social protection system in the Sakhalin Oblast based on the results of the research conducted by the in-depth interview method. The main problems faced by the recipients of social services are described, and special attention is paid to the assessment of the effective-ness of measures to support vulnerable groups of the population. It is emphasized that there is a need for con-tinuous monitoring and improvement of this process, as the island region is doing a significant amount of work to meet the vital needs of these categories of citizens, but the existing measures do not always meet the needs of citizens in terms of volume, quality and accessibility. This implies the need to develop and implement mech-anisms aimed at improving the social protection system and providing more effective support for the vulnera-ble segments of the population of the island region.
