Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the system of characters, which includes both central and secondary characters in the stories and novels of Gaito Gazdanov, heroes - creators, heroes - writers and their antipodes. The main character is seen as the semantic center of the work, regardless of whether he is the main subject of the narrative or not. In the article, the heroes of novels and stories are systematized according to the selected criteria into separate groups. The dualism of human nature in Gaito Gazdanov's prose is realized with the help of a number of figurative antitheses, one of which is the opposition of creator heroes and destroyer heroes.
