Abstract
The article deals with some characteristics of Russia’s language policy nowadays. This paper gives a brief overview of the functions of the Russian language as a pluricentric one; a circular model of Russian as a language of mono- and intercultural communication developed on the basis of B. Kachru’s theory of concentric circles is given. Some statistical data of the last years were analysed and the status of Russian in the world and in the Russian Federation is outlined. The author explains some aspects in Russia’s educational language policy and describes specific features of teaching Russian as a foreign language at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Area Studies of Lomonosov Moscow State University. The problems of the influence of global English on the lexical corpus of the Russian language are also discussed.
