Abstract

The collapse of the Timurid empire set in motion the complex mechanisms of the political reorgani-zation of Eurasia and led to the emergence of new political formations. The nomadic dynasty, Shi-banids Abu’l-khayrids (906–1007/1500–99), having established their power in Maverannahr, though powerful, but still a marginal stratum, as the Qarakhanids (381/606–991/1209), sought to reinforce their influence and authority. Both dynasties staked their claim on Sunni orthodoxy, which unified the basis of societal development. The struggle on the external contour against Shi’ism, which be-came the state ideology of Iran, required a reaffirmation of their legitimacy as an “al-firqa al-nājiyya”. In their state management, they needed a strong legal base. The region’s dominant Hanafi interpretative community, ulama, and faqihs launched a process of rethinking the Islamic legal her-itage. Ву identifying manuscripts of legal works in research holdings of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the author attempts to outline the corpus of writings that could help more accurately recreate the political-legal sphere of the Abu’l-khayrids khanate in the era considered as the second stage in the formation of Islamic law in pre-modern Eurasia.
