Abstract

The paper discusses the problem of ensuring food security as one of the key tasks 
 of the modern economic policy of the state, the solution of which will help to achieve food inde-pendence of the country and improve the quality of life of the population. Fishery, as a manufacturer and supplier of food products with a high content of easily digestible proteins of animal origin, fat-soluble vitamins and minerals, occupies the leading position in the food security system of the Russian Federation. Based on the study of modern approaches to the content and monitoring the level of food security, the indicators of assessing the level of food security for fisheries in the sphere of production and consumption of fish products are refined. The food security in the area 
 of fish production, dynamics of production volumes of fish and aquatic biological resources, amounts and structure of the domestic production of fish products, import and export helped to evaluate the high potential of the fisheries complex of the Russian Federation in achieving the in-crease of self-sufficiency in fishery products up to 85%. It has been stated that in the field of fish product consumption reflecting the degree of economic accessibility of the population there are the problems: the prevalence of fish products with low depth of processing in the structure of average per capita consumption, low consumption of animal proteins, high dependence of consumption 
 of fish and fish products by households on the level of available resources and consumer prices for fish products.
