Abstract

The article deals with the problem of theodicy posed in the novel by Ivan Karamazov. Neighbors-hangers-on, who were afraid to resist the general and allowed the crime to be committed, correlate with the portrait of the devil, whom the author also calls “hangers-on” several times.
