Abstract

This paper studies a method for calculating the capacity of a propulsion motor for a railway vehicle using the design characteristics of the vehicle body specification. In the case of railroad vehicles, an appropriate propulsion motor capable of generating the traction required by the locomotive must be designed, and it is necessary to design the motor in consideration of various design characteristics. Accordingly, in this paper, a method for calculating the output of an electric motor considering the speed and traction force of a railway vehicle is studied. At this time, the research process was formulated using the design characteristics and physical characteristics of the railway vehicle, and its validity was verified using the traction output table of the No. 7600 unit. As a result, an average error of about 1.5 [%] occurred between the measured motor output and the calculated motor output.
