Abstract

The work of the outstanding Russian writer A.I. Solzhenitsyn (1918–2008) has a significant cultural and philosophical potential, since it can serve as a source of moral, ethical, philosophical, cultural and other knowledge. In this plane, the corpus of works (fiction-historical and journalistic) of the writer can contribute to the implementation of the tasks of historical and patriotic education, since it contains detailed answers to traditional questions of socio-cultural development, demonstrates the victories and defeats of past generations, depending on the chosen ontological platform. As part of the construction by the author of the cultural-philosophical model of A.I. Solzhenitsyn, the article presents the views of literary-critical researchers on the epic novel «The Red Wheel». In different years, the genre, compositional and socio-cultural features of the work under consideration became the subject of literary criticism, as well as a general literary assessment of the novel, its place in Russian literature was assessed. According to the results of the study, the author concludes that the «Red Wheel» is a documentary and artistic chronicle, since it combines elements of a historical, literary and epic work. The work considered in the article reflects a wide panorama of the socio-cultural life of Russian society in a critical era, when there was a change in the cultural and mental structure of the Russian people formed over the centuries.
