Abstract

The article deals with ornament - an important component of plastic arts. It is claimed that the ornament preserves a rich, historical, cultural, and artistic heritage. It defines the different attitude of art historians to the ornament: a type of art, or a type of decorative and creative activity. The article refers to the presence of the discipline "art of ornament" in the content of educational programs of various art institutions of secondary and higher education. The article considers the great pedagogical potential of the ornament; the main aspects of ornament development in art education are defined. Methods of teaching ornaments with consideration of the specifics of art education are compared based on the analysis of available educational and methodological literature. What is common for training courses is determined-theoretical materials on the history of ornament. Differences define practical tasks for independent work. The article analyzes the features of training of an artist-teacher, asserts the importance of mastering the ornament. Features of the author's program "art of ornament"are revealed. The program was developed taking into account the specifics of the professional activity of the artist-teacher.
