Abstract

One of the important diagnostic methods for erosive and ulcerative lesions of the oral mucosa is the cytological method. Cytological examination is a method of laboratory diagnostics, which allows to identify qualitative and quantitative changes in cells, the presence of intra- and extracellular inclusions and microorganisms. The choice of the cytological method is explained by the information content, objectivity and sufficient simplicity, and the obtained cytological data clearly correlate with the state of the oral mucosa. A cytological study was carried out in individuals with healthy oral mucosa and in patients with erosive- ulcerative form of lichen planus before and after treatment. Cytological studies have proven a violation of the cellular composition of the epithelium of the buccal mucosa in patients with erosive-ulcerative form of lichen planus, the choice of treatment plays a significant role in the timing of erosion epithelialization, recurrence and prevention of complications.
