Abstract
The relevance of the topic of the article lies in the fact that there is age discrimination of older people, which raises the question of the quality of life of the elderly population. The purpose of the article is to consider the types of ageism, its causes, and measures to eliminate them in the representatives of the younger generation. The research materials were scientific articles and websites of well-known organizations. Research methods: study of various sources of information, analysis of the information obtained, synthesis, deduction, induction. The results of the study. The article describes the types of ageism, such as open ageism, latent ageism, everyday ageism, self-ageism. The main causes of ageism are noted. These include gerontophobia, negative stereotypes, declining status of the elderly, low culture in society, lack of geriatrics and gerontology programs in full, insufficiently qualified personnel in the field of health care, social services. Measures to eliminate manifestations of ageism among the younger generation should include the use of various media, the development and monitoring of gerontological ageism in medical centers and social institutions, the audit of clinical, managerial, strategic and financial documents defining age restrictions for access to treatment, medicines or services, the formation of social and medical employees, as well as future specialists studying in these specialties, skills of self-reflection of attitudes towards aging and the elderly, increasing the competence of social and medical workers in the field of geriatrics and gerontology through appropriate courses. In conclusion, it is concluded that the state policy should be aimed at expanding legislation, writing various projects and programs about older people that will help overcome poor awareness of this issue and change negative stereotypes about aging to positive ones. Efforts should be made to stimulate contacts between representatives of different generations, facilitating communication and interaction between them.
