Abstract

The article by Ukrainian ethnomusicologist Marharyta Skazhenyk (Маргарита Скаженик) deals with winter rite tunes of the Middle Polissya, which are based on the rhythmic figure of the ascending Ionic. These melodies belong to the children’s repertoire. They are performed on the eve of the “old” New Year and are called “shchedrovki”. The variety of the rhythmic, pitch and composite embodiment of the rhythmic formula is determined by the location of the studied traditions on the periphery in relation to the main zone of its distribution (Ukrainian-Belarusian borderland in the Ubort river basin). Key words: “shchedrovka”, Middle Polissya, ascending Ionic, rhythmic form. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/td.v13i0.1696
