Abstract

Nuclear Power Plant operators regularly check the performance of pumps and valves that perform safety functions, and either monitor or evaluate the degree of vulnerability over time through In-Service Test(IST). Cavitating venturi is installed in the pipeline of the auxiliary feedwater system that is related to the IST. Cavitation is a phenomenon that impair the safety function. Accurate analysis of cavitation flow inside the cavitating venturi can contribute to improve the safety of the auxiliary feedwater system. In this study, we tried to analyze the flow characteristics inside the cavitating venturi and effect of cavitation model coefficient. The multiphase flow simulation was performed using k-ω turbulence model, Volume of Fluid(VOF) model and Zwart cavitation model, implemented in OpenFOAM and predicted results were compared with experimental data.
