Abstract
Studying genre systems of national literatures is a relevant problem of the modern literary criticism, which requires researchers’ attention. Scientific originality of the paper lies in the fact that the problem of the short story genre formation in the Kabardinian literature is for the first time considered in the global context of the genre evolution. The study aims to present an overall picture of formation and evolution of the short story genre in the Kabardinian literature of the second half of the XX century. The research findings are as follows: genre and style characteristics and compositional peculiarities of the Kabardian short stories are revealed; the short story genre subtypes are identified.
