Abstract
The article examines peculiarities of image-symbol interpretation in the light of change of cultural-historical epochs. The paper presents a survey of the existing views on images-symbols. The problem of interpreting the deeper meanings of artistic images is identified and analysed by the example of the horse image, which is widely used in global art. The author emphasizes the necessity for the contextual analysis that reveals image-symbol meanings, which promotes more objective perception of artistic language.
