Abstract
The article reveals the peculiarities of teaching a foreign language to technical students. The authors justify the thesis that foreign-language lexical competence is an integral component of professional communicative competence. The content of foreign-language terminological vocabulary is ascertained taking into account the professional needs of “Metallurgy” speciality students. The basic principles of teaching foreign-language professional vocabulary at the initial stage are identified. These principles form a basis of teaching professional vocabulary.
