Abstract

The problems of the formation and development of streamsides have long attracted researchers from different scientific communities. Modern anthropogenic impact leads to ecological degradation and deterioration of the state of water bodies, as well as adjacent territories. So, the need to establish water protection zones is an important step towards sustainable development and protection of water bodies. The paper deals with the process of establishing and formalizing water protection zones. The water legislation of the Russian Federation, which regulates water protection relations, was studied. The legal regime of economic activity and the possible form of ownership of territories in the framework of water protection zones were analyzed. Measures were proposed to protect surface water bodies and improve the use of streamsides from an environmental and legal point of view.
