Abstract

The research aims to identify the features peculiar to the literary interpretation of the theme of man’s and the nation’s fate in Mansur Gilyazov’s monodrama “Mikulai” (2019). The paper is novel in that it approaches the study of the play from the perspective of analysing the literary techniques and devices used by the author that contribute to manifestation of the theme of man’s and the nation’s fate in drama. The research findings have shown that the playwright, employing a peculiar plot and a non-standard genre form, using conventional techniques and symbols characteristic of national mentality, by depicting the fates of an individual person and a single village addresses a serious topic about the past, present and future of the Tatar people. Through poetisation of the centuries-old way of ethnic life, the author pursues the idea that it is necessary to re-evaluate existing values and remain loyal to traditions, since alienation from the roots eventually leads to the destruction of the national world, which is based on national philosophy and the national worldview.
