Більшість випадків дефіциту вітаміну D має місце в осіб віком понад 75 років (84,3 %). Статистичні дані щодо поширеності захворювань кістково-м’язової системи та ключові положення лікування навів у своїй лекції професор Heinrich Resch (Відень, Австрія). Захворювання суглобів, такі як остеоартрит (ОА) і ревматоїдний артрит (РА), є головними причинами інвалідності й становлять половину всіх хронічних захворювань в осіб віком понад 65 років. The number of people suffering from those disorders increased by 25 % and affected 1 of 4 adults worldwide. Joint diseases such as osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) were the leading causes of disability and half of all the chronic conditions over the age of 65.
