Abstract
The study is dealing with the examination not only of the objective reasons of the creation of regular army units in Qajar Iran, but also of correct understanding of the character of military reforms in that country.The whole period of creation and development of the regular army in Iran could be divided in three stages. The first stage covers the military reform put in practice under the guidance of the Crown Prince Abbas Mirza (1787-1833) mainly in the province of Azerbaijan, coincided with two Russian-Iranian wars of 1804-1812, and 1826-1828. The second stage of military reform is marked by the serious attempts undertaken by Amir Kabir Mirza Taqi Khan (1848-1851) towards the formation of national regular army. The third stage of the military reorganization is connected with the name of Mirza Hossein Khan Moshir od Dowleh (1871-1880).The present paper examines the first stage of formation and development of regular army units in Iran, the character and results of the activities of foreign military missions in that country, persuading their own political purposes, as well as the position of the regular army in the first third of XIX century.
