Abstract
The research aims to identify the linguocultural specificity of metaphors in the political discourse of printed media at the turn of the XX-XXI centuries. Scientific novelty of the paper lies in approaching the study of political metaphors of Russian printed media in 1991-2008 from the perspective of their connection with Russian linguoculture; the characteristic national and cultural features of metaphors are indicated, these include manipulating public opinion by referring to the history of the country, focusing on key events and political personalities of the present, actualising recipients’ archetypal values (health, aversion to war, fight against “foreign things”, etc.). The research resulted in the definition and linguocultural analysis of the key source macrospheres of metaphors in the specified time period, namely “the USSR”, “nature”, “theatre”, “medicine”, “war”, “sport”.
