Abstract

The article explains the role of a language in political discourse, analyses its influence on the formation of ideological attitudes, the formation of political messages and interaction with the audience. The main definitions of political discourse, its characteristics and the forms in which it is implemented are outlined. The linguistic and communicative features of political discourse are determined, and a way to use it in the process of teaching English is proposed. The author describes the possibilities of including political discourse in the process of studying a foreign language, suggests to structure lexical units using the context, which can help students not only develop language skills, but also increase "political literacy" through a conscious and critical perception of political discourse.
