Abstract
The article is devoted to the methodological problem of separation of mechanisms and channels of recruitment in the political elite on the example of two countries - Russia and America. The degree of homogeneity of political elites and the degree of their influence in society are studied. On the basis of the comparative analysis the universal (traditional) channels of recruitment and specific for each of the studied countries are considered. The spheres of state activity are revealed, where the influence of political elites is very significant and largely decisive.
