Abstract

This article examines recent research trends in Japanese pre-modern history from 2020 to 2021 and the following tendencies are noticed :BR Firstly, themes have become more diversified. Researchers have the ability to use more various primary sources and interpret them properly. As a result, their research were further intensified.BR Secondly, Researchers’ perspectives have been broadened. Research achievements that transcend time and region limits has increased.BR Thirdly, an attempt is made to analyze the relationship between Korea and Japan from the viewpoint of “ocean” or “ocean area”BR Fourth, traditional and core themes of Japanese history research in Korea have reached to a stage that can be named as a “Korean-style Japanese history research”.BR Finally, studies of ancient Japanese history and the Edo period by Japanese researchers are steadily increasing.BR Based on the research methods and achievements accumulated so far, it is expected that the study of Japanese pre-modern history will advance and mature.
