Abstract

During the Covid-19 period, online classes have been strengthened, and the preference for synchronous online discussion is increasing in college classes. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a case for synchronous online discussion and to ensure the effect of synchronous online discussion on metacognition, critical thinking disposition, creative ability, and collective intelligence. Participants who are involving in synchronous online discussion for 10 weeks are 224 students of major courses at K University. Students were asked to take a metacognition test, a critical thinking disposition test, a creative ability test, and a collective intelligence test prior to and after the experiment. The selected data were analyzed by the paired t-tests. As a result, there were significant differences after synchronous online discussion in all factors such as metacognition, critical thinking disposition, creative ability, and collective intelligence. The results of this study can be used as basic data to applying synchronous online discussion of College Students.
