Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate environmental laws, institutions, and policies to promote environmental justice and suggest improvements based on the results. We defined the concept of environmental justice in Korea, evaluated the law, system, and policies according to the evaluation framework that they are based on, and suggested a direction of improvement. The main results of our evaluation are summarized as follows: 1) various policies, laws, and institutions that cause environmental problems in Korea do not consider the social weak or consider enough; 2) there was a lack of strategic plans to release the negative distribution effects of the selection and operation of environmental policies; 3) the sustainability of environmental policies and businesses, which includes the concept of environmental justice, has not been assessed and diagnosed. Based on our evaluation, directions for improving environmental justice were suggested.
