Abstract
This article analyzes some current problems of socio-economic development of the northern and Arctic cities of the Far North and the Arctic, identified during expert surveys in 2021-2023. In the course of the study, scientific literature and official statistical data on the issues of socio-economic development of northern and Arctic municipalities (MO) were studied. Scientific methods of statistical and comparative analysis were used, and the method of sociological research (expert survey) was also used. The most acute problems of social and economic development of the Arctic and northern municipalities have been identified: lack of financial resources and budget revenues; problems in the housing and communal services sector; logistical problems associated with poor transport accessibility. It has been established that the level of provision of social services to residents of the Arctic and northern municipalities is higher than that of residents in the Murmansk region. When assessing protest activity, there is a high probability of increased social tension in the Arctic and northern municipalities. The results of expert surveys to identify problems of socio-economic development of the Arctic and northern regions, the level of social tension can be used in the development of federal, regional, municipal development programs and other documents.
