The ongoing transformational processes in the labor market and in the economy as a whole have led to the fact that a person has become the main goal of the development of any country, so much attention is paid to the study of ergonomic workplace indicators as factors affecting human capital. Job satisfaction is one of the important aspects that affects the efficiency of workers. Currently, work efficiency and labor quality include various indicators and elements, for example, such as the nature of work, the psychological climate at work, remuneration, workplace organization, management, working conditions, etc. If we consider a person's life, then he spends almost half of it in the workplace. Consequently, the urgent task of the modern organizational system remains to ensure the safety and, of course, the preservation of the health of employees. Despite the fact that, according to statistics, the dynamics of accidents at work is decreasing, but the state of working conditions requires improvement, since the number of occupational diseases associated with exposure to harmful production factors is large. In this regard, the authors of this article studied the structure of the able-bodied population, identified the most vulnerable age categories that are susceptible to occupational injuries – these are primarily young workers. As a result of the study, the most dangerous sectors in which workers are more susceptible to these injuries are identified – construction, agriculture, manufacturing. Thus, based on the analysis, the authors identified two main factors that affect the development of human potential and human capital, these are safety and health at work. The influence of these factors and their importance are shown, as well as the possibilities of reducing negative indicators are considered. Therefore, at present, enterprises need to pay special attention to this aspect, since the quality and efficiency of work depends on the ergonomic indicators of the workplace
