Abstract

The article presents the historical and pedagogical experience of training teachers for elementary public schools in the eighth (additional) pedagogical class and in pedagogical courses at the Pskov Mariinsky Womens Gymnasium. In the context of the conditions of Russian reality at the end of the 19th century issues related to the need for teaching staff, the interest of regional authorities in their stable training, supported by appropriate financial policies, are highlighted. Particular attention is paid to aspects related to the content and organization of the theoretical and practical training of trainees, as well as their final certification. Conclusions are drawn about the possibility of using a number of the considered pedagogical traditions in the modern system of training elementary school teachers.
