Abstract
The article develops V. A. Romanov’s hypothesis on genetic relation of fantasy and bildungsroman. The mentioned genre tradition is identified in the urban fantasy subgenre by the example of the novel “Vita Nostra” by Marina and Sergey Dyachenko, which has not been previously examined from this viewpoint. This tradition manifests itself in the following elements of poetics: teachers’ images, motives of learning, initiation, transformation, danger. It is shown that the novel’s imaginative system is focused on the Torp city image, which, being initially just a scene, transforms firstly into a house and then into an integral element of the main heroine’s personality. The author concludes that the analysed literary work is an example of a cardinally new synthetic genre of fantasy bildungsroman, in which elements of the urban fantasy subgenre recede into the background.
