Abstract

Regional Studies Bureau (BK) of Krasnoyarsk branch of Russian Geographical Society (KORGO) was founded in May, 1924, as the response to the creation of Central Regional Studies Bureau (TsBK) in Moscow and to the appeal of the Soviet government to begin working on the mass regional studies all around the country. The main aim of BK was an attraction of the different sectors of the population of the province to regional studies by organizing regional studies clubs and museums, programming and sharing the programs and questionnaires to collect information, popularization regional studies in local press, spreading the information about regional studies, publishing regional studies researches and guidance material. By doing so, BK should have been become the center to unite local regional studies researchers, which could have been provided them with scientific leadership and different errands to run. For its part, the material the had collected became a substantial assistance for KORGO researches of Prieniseysky kray history, nature and economy. The main difficulties of BK were inadequate financing and lack of the government support. In fact, the main achievements of BK revealed through pioneering activities of Krasnoyarsk scientists and public figures: Smirnov V.A., Auerbach N.K. Palmin M.I., Yavorsky A.L., Tugarinov A.Y., Kosovanov V.P., Shneider I.A., Sementovsky K.N., Krasnojenova M.V. and others. BK activity is considered and analyzed in details, based on multiple archive materials about organizing massive research studies in Krasnoyarsk region in 1924–1928. Considerable attention is paid to the forms and methods of attraction of the different sections of the population to research works of KORGO.
