Abstract

The paper shows how the Kuban Cossacks’ participation in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 is represented in pre-revolutionary military-historical works written by immediate participants and eyewitnesses of the event. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher analyses publications on the role of the regular and irregular cavalry and special military units created to increase the Russian troops’ combat efficiency. The analysis of historical sources allows concluding that, in spite of the wide range of publications on this issue, the problem of the Kuban Cossacks’ participation in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 is insufficiently investigated.
