Abstract

The article aims to consider, in the first approximation, the similarities and differences in the ordinary consciousness of the Germans and the Russians on the basis of the results of an associative experiment conducted among the German and Russian students. The peculiarity of the experiment is that the frequency words of the German and Russian languages were suggested as incentive ones. On the basis of the qualitative and quantitative analysis, a change of the concept “I - society” in the ordinary consciousness of the Germans has been established. In conclusion, the authors demonstrate the influence of this process on the use of the words representing this concept, and on translation decision making.
