Abstract
The research objective includes theoretical and experimental justification of a technology to teach the English-language art criticism terminology on the basis of literary texts of the “Painting” subject area to students-historians. The article proposes techniques to teach the English-language oral speech on the basis of authentic literary texts of the “Painting” subject area. The suggested technology promotes formation of the foreign-language professional communicative competence among students-historians, which fits requirements of normative documents and satisfies students’ needs identified during a survey. Scientific originality of the study involves developing methodology to teach the English-language art criticism terminology on the basis of authentic literary texts of the “Painting” subject area to students-historians. The research findings are as follows: the authors prove that authentic literary texts possess a didactic potential and contain the basic art criticism terms students require to prepare a descriptive monologue (description of a painting, sculpture, architectural monument, etc.).
