Abstract

The article deals with an attempt of organizing trade and catering in the system of consumer cooperation of Saratov region. The analysis of the activity of consumer cooperation in the expansion of the trade network, increase in trade turnover and goods range, the public catering network branching in the village is carried out. Attention is focused on the inconsistency of this process, the measures to improve trade and public catering in rural areas. The paper concludes that despite success in consumer cooperation development in the 1950s, it had not yet been possible to overcome the existed shortage of goods and services and thus meet the rural workers’ needs.
