Abstract

The article presents brief information about the scientific biography and work of the Russian physiologist and physician Alexander Petrovich Bruzhes (1887-1971), a representative of A.A. Ukhtomsky’s scientific school. The memories of relatives, colleagues, and material from the author’s publications are used. A commentary is offered on the text of the scientis’s two articles (“On designing machines from the viewpoint of ease of maintenance”, “The typist’s workplace and her position”), which may be useful to readers both from the perspective of the history of science and as an example of practice-oriented research. The scientist’s contribution to developing the domestic scientific labour organisation, ergonomics, and ergodesign is outlined. Original fragments of A.P. Bruzhes’s scientific articles are presented, published in the journals (Occupational Hygiene, 1927; Issues of Shorthand and Typewriting, 1928).
