Highlights
In the submitted material a retrospective analysis of theoretical and practical training for continuing vocational education in the history of higher education is presented
The theoretical aspects of the experience of preparation for continuous education under the conditions of the HEI in different periods of development of a certain problem, starting from the origin and ending with the middle of the 20th century, are researched. It is characterized the prototypes of HEIs that arose in ancient Greece, whose education was based on methods developed by ancient Greek philosophers, namely Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Democritus, and Pythagoras
The first universities of medieval Europe became an alternative to medieval scholasticism and focused on self-perfection of the individual

In the submitted material a retrospective analysis of theoretical and practical training for continuing vocational education in the history of higher education is presented. Розвиток окремих ланок неперервної педагогічної освіти в різних країнах світу досліджували у своїх працях О. Дослідження направлене на здійснення ретроспективного аналізу підготовки до неперервної професійної освіти в історії вищої школи за кордоном. Сократ, вимагаючи від учня самостійного знаходження істини, стимулював бажання до подальшого навчання та самостійної освіти.
