Abstract
The article analyzes the difficulties when translating the works of the Koryak writer Ketsai Kekketyn from Koryak into Russian. In the Koryak language expressivity is created by word-formative affixes. The Koryak diminutive suffix пиль(ляӄ)/-пэль(ляӄ) can be added to any noun or pronoun. In the Russian language a diminutive affix has a more limited sphere of usage, that’s why it’s not always possible to find the Russian equivalents of the Koryak words. Thus, when preparing the word-for-word translation of Ketsai Kekketyn’s short stories into Russian, the expressiveness of the author’s style of the Koryak writer inevitably declines.
