Abstract

The article analyzes the concept of the synergy of science and fiction, considered on the examples of the novel “Machines Like Me” by MacEwan and Jeanette Winterson’s “The Lighthouse”. Special attention is paid to rhetorical discourse as a non-artistic inclusion placed in the space of a literary text. Interdiscursivity — as the interaction of different types of knowledge — demonstrates the ability to fuse not only with artistic imagery, using different types of tropes, thereby enhancing the expressiveness of the necessary aspects of rhetorical inclusion, but also itself conveys the features of noumenality to the receiving text: the artistic text is intellectualized. The novels of McEwan and Winterson are distinguished by polydiscursivity. The interaction of psychological science about the duality of consciousness is considered on the example of the novel “The Lighthouse” by J.Winterson. The duality of the main characters, the self-identification of the “Self” as another and alien person, the associated transformations of consciousness, of the binarity and duality and personality of heroes creates complex image of the characters with the tragic irreconcilability of their life of the body, consciousness and the world of the soul.
