Abstract

The paper reveals the basic aspects of the South East trade unions activity in the period of New Economic Policy. This activity represents trade unions nature and social purpose. The author summarizes experience of the social protection function realization in the Don, Kuban and Stavropol regions, which constitutes scientific originality of the research. As a result, the author identifies specificity of the regional trade union movement: preservation of the Mensheviks’ influence up to 1923; trade unions readiness to protect workers’ rights and interests, which largely predetermined socially oriented development of the region under study as compared to central Russia regions.
