Abstract

The organization of medical and social provision for the elderly and senile is an important task of the state. Working with geriatric patients is aimed at improving their quality of life, preventing their loss of autonomy and premature death. Anatomical and physiological features of elderly and senile people, age-associated conditions and diseases, polymorbidity and the use of drug therapy can lead to an increased number of falls and fractures among people of advanced age. Falls and related fractures reduce the quality of life, desocialize patients and can cause premature death. Therefore, when providing medical care, it is important to identify the risks of falls and correct the conditions that can lead to falls and fractures. The article provides an overview of the Russian and foreign literature, as well as current clinical recommendations for the prevention and diagnosis of falls.
