Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the economic development prospects and possible risks of gas swap transactions between the world's largest players in the hydrocarbon market — the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran — in the context of comprehensive international sanctions. A general description of swap operations is given, an analysis of the mechanism for conducting these swap operations is carried out, the legal framework, main projects and multilateral sanctions pressure are studied. It is concluded that in this situation, the development of cooperation between these countries is one of the main ways to resolve the economic issues that have arisen from the imposition of sanctions against the fuel and energy complex of the two countries. In the current sanctions conditions, cooperation and interaction between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the energy sector can not only strengthen their partnership in the economic sphere, but can also provide significant assistance in strengthening their positions in the global political arena.
