Abstract

This paper is written to find out what kind of conditions South Korea should try to meet, when it wants to unify the Korean Peninsula by taking advantage of North Korean sudden collapse. For this purpose, it introduces four key conditions for the smooth unification between two countries and examines them through the cases of the German unification and the Russia Annexation of Crimea.BR As a result, this paper concluded that the desirable unification process should be peaceful, acquire the consent of the people and follow the established domestic and international procedures. These conditions wore relatively well applied at the German unification and Russian annexation of Crimea.BR If South Korea wants to accomplish the unification in case of sudden collapse of North Korea, it should prevent the eruption of violence, demonstrate the strong consent of the people, abide by the given domestic procedures and norms. It should try to respect the opinions of strong neighbors in order to acquire the international approval of the unification.
