Abstract

The scientific article is a review of the book of memoirs of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Cyprus (2003–2007, 2012–2019) Borys Ivanovych Humeniuk. The reviewer notes that B. Humeniuk's book provides an opportunity to consider the key events in the diplomatic and domestic political history of Ukraine in recent years. In particular, it describes in detail the process of implementing one of the main directions of Ukraine's European integration policy – the establishment of equal and good neighborly relations with the Republic of Cyprus, which, as the author rightly noted, depended on the general context of relations with Brussels, in particular in the issues of granting, first visa exemptions for citizens of Ukraine, and then „visa-free” regime. It was also noted that the memoirs, which clearly describe the work of the ambassador, the peculiarities of his interaction with the political leadership of the host country, protocol measures, can be used in the training of future diplomats. Humeniuk's reflections on the development of Ukrainian-Cypriot relations during the period of „hybrid” confrontation with Russia in recent years also proved to be valuable for the author of the article. The author managed to show in detail, interestingly and clearly the foreign policy vector of this struggle, to trace the risks that Ukraine has to face in the foreign policy arena in the conditions of intensification of Moscow's anti-Ukrainian policy. The reviewer concludes that the book of memoirs of Borys Ivanovych Humeniuk can be recommended both for a wide range of readers interested in Ukraine's foreign policy and for specialists-scientists.
