Abstract

The purpose of the research - to evaluate the influence of stage duration in the test with stepwise increasing load to failure on the aerobic capacity indices of amateur athletes. Materials and research methods. Endurance was assessed using Cyclus 2 bicycle ergometer, Cosmed K5 gas analyser and Biosen lactometer. Student's t-test was used to analyze differences between groups. Research results. Stage duration had a significant effect on power at the level of maximal oxygen consumption and power at the level of anaerobic exchange threshold, but had no significant effect on maximal oxygen consumption, heart rate at the level of on maximal oxygen consumption and anaerobic threshold. Conclusion. The study confirms that stage duration in the step test influences the assessment of aerobic capacity of young and middle-aged amateur athletes. Individual responses to stage duration changes were mixed, highlighting the need for a personalized approach in interpreting results.
