Abstract

The paper is devoted to the study of the verbal prefix пред- on the basis of a comparative analysis of the corpus research data and the results of psycholinguistic experiments. The aim of the research is to determine how Russian speakers perceive the prefix пред-, the spheres of functioning of prefixed verbs with пред- in comparison with the corresponding non-prefixed units. The scientific novelty of the paper consists in conducting a series of psycholinguistic experiments on the study of verbal units with the prefix пред- and the corresponding non-prefixed verbs, which made it possible to identify new and significant results in their perception and in doing so to see the relevance of the prospective meaning (expressed by the prefix пред-) in the linguistic worldview of Russian speakers. The research findings showed that at the present stage, the semantics of the prefix пред- is very well understood by Russian speakers, verbs with this prefix in general are not associated with the church-theological sphere of functioning (in comparison with the results of the corpus research), the frequency spheres of their functioning include educational-scientific, technical-industrial, official-business and literary.
