Abstract

The article is devoted to a relevant problem of distant foreign language teaching. The authors consider principles to compile a mass open online course (MOOC) of Russian as a foreign language for elementary grade students “I Speak Russian”. The paper describes experience of creating an electronic resource, which allows students in relatively short time to gain the A1 level of language competence, to acquire elementary language proficiency. Examples of MOOC usage at the initial stage of teaching Russian as a foreign language are provided. The basic difficulties arising with MOOC are revealed and possible solutions are suggested.
