Abstract

The article contains an analysis of documents from the archival fund of the Central Scientific Research and Design Institute for Urban Planning, stored in the Russian State Archive in Samara. The institute was created in 1963 as a result of the merger of the Gorstroyproekt trust and the Scientific Research Institute of Urban and District Planning, which has been involved in urban planning since the 1930s. Until the 1980s, the institute was a leading organization carrying out research and design work in the field of urban planning; its research team developed methodological and normative literature, compiled textbooks and course programs for construction universities, and also worked on the civil engineering projects in the USSR and abroad. The archival fund of the Institute is representative and allows us to trace the main stages of the formation of the construction industry in the Soviet Union. The design of civil engineering facilities was carried out in close connection with the industrial capacities of a certain area, which makes it possible to determine the main elements of the socio-cultural space and infrastructure of Soviet industrial enterprises.
