Abstract

The paper considers the status and main approaches to solving the problems of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the world and the Russian Federation, taking into account possible scenarios of the «green transition», the strategy of low-carbon development of Russia until 2050 and the prospects for using natural gas as a motor fuel. The purpose of this study is to analyze international and Russian approaches, as well as the tools for regulating greenhouse gas emissions. The study has summarized the administrative, technical and market measures used in the world practice to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The conclusion is made about the relevance of research aimed at studying the commercial potential of using natural gas in order to achieve the planned indicators for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The results of the study open up a new theoretical direction in the study of the problems of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
